Blue Origin, founded by Jeff Bezos, announced on Wednesday that it plans to launch 5408 satellites to build a communication network called TeraWave, directly benchmarking SpaceX Starlink and Amazon’s Kuiper program. This network is mainly aimed at enterprise, data center, and government users, claiming to provide data transmission rates of up to 6 terabits per second through low Earth orbit and medium Earth orbit satellites.

Blue Origin is expected to start deploying satellite constellations in the fourth quarter of 2027, officially joining the satellite Internet competition led by the current Musk star chain. At present, Starlink has deployed over 9000 satellites and has approximately 9 million users. Amazon’s Kuiper project is also advancing the construction of its 3236 low Earth orbit satellites and launched a corporate preview plan in November last year.

It is worth noting that Blue Origin has previously launched 180 satellites through partners such as the United Launch Alliance, and will gradually transition to autonomous launches in the future. Last year, the company’s new rocket, the New Glenn, successfully made its maiden flight and achieved the first rocket booster recovery in November, laying a key technological foundation for its satellite deployment plan.

Bezos predicted in 2024 that Blue Origin would eventually surpass Amazon’s scale. This company, founded in 2000, is currently led by Dave Linp, former head of Amazon’s device business, and is expanding from space tourism to satellite network operations, embarking on a new round of space competition with old rival Elon Musk.

Roger Luo said:The field of satellite Internet is shifting from technical verification to large-scale commercial operation and ecosystem competition. Blue Origin’s launch closed-loop capability, formed by reusable rocket technology, if the constellation deployment can be completed on schedule, will not only challenge the existing market pattern, but also potentially promote the systematic evolution of global low orbit communication standards and business models.

The animation happens when someone visits the user’s profile page. People might also see the animation in replies and other places. The moving picture replaces the usual static image. Twitter Blue subscribers get access to this test first. Not all subscribers see the option yet. Twitter is testing it with a small group.

Users see the new option in their profile settings. They can choose a video file from their device. The file must meet specific size and length rules. Twitter aims to make profiles more expressive. The company wants users to show more personality. This follows other Twitter Blue features like editing tweets. Twitter Blue costs a monthly fee.

The test is ongoing. Twitter will gather feedback. The company may change the feature before a wider release. Twitter Blue is available on Apple iOS and Android devices. Web users can also subscribe. Twitter continues adding new features for subscribers. Animated profile pictures are the latest addition. The test is rolling out gradually. Some users report seeing it already. Others will see it later. Twitter did not announce a full launch date. The feature remains in testing for now.

This global rollout follows a testing period in select markets. Twitter Blue offers users special features. Subscribers get a blue verification badge. They can edit their tweets after posting.

The monthly cost varies by region. Prices start at around $8 USD. Exact pricing depends on the country. Payment methods include major credit cards. Twitter Blue requires an iOS or Android device. Web sign-ups are not supported yet. Existing subscribers keep their benefits.

This expansion aims to grow Twitter’s revenue. It also gives users more control. The blue check mark now shows active subscription. It no longer indicates identity verification alone. Twitter believes this creates a better experience. Subscribers support the platform directly. They help fund ongoing improvements.

Twitter CEO Elon Musk announced the news. He stated this move empowers users. Musk emphasized Twitter’s commitment to free speech. He also mentioned upcoming feature additions. More tools for creators are planned. Enhanced video options are in development too.

The global launch faced some criticism. Concerns exist about potential misinformation risks. Edited tweets could spread false claims. Twitter addressed this with edit history visibility. All changes remain publicly viewable. The company says this maintains transparency.

Twitter Blue launched in late 2022. Initial markets included the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Recent additions cover Europe, Asia, and parts of Africa. The service targets dedicated Twitter users. Businesses and public figures are key audiences. Twitter hopes to attract millions of new subscribers globally. This subscription model is central to Twitter’s future business strategy. More updates are expected soon.
